Here are the handouts for it if you missed them...

Reminder - Book talks are due Friday, Oct 27th !

Oct 4 - Period 1 had their introduction to the Zombie Writing Assignment. Period 2 worked on their Writing today. Mostly prewriting work in designing the project they are going to write. We watched a compilation of the top ten Zombie Movies. We looked a documentary style project example and three others that were done last year. Period 5 - We looked at the video about the top ten Zombie movies we talked about the project and settled into prewriting work.

Oct 3rd - Period 1 had their make-up Independent Reading Day they missed last Friday. Period 2 got their self assessments done on their multi-genre stories, and then I introduced the Zombie Writing Project through some videos. Period 5 didn't get the self-assessments done but did get the intro to the zombie project. Here is file on the writing project...

Oct 2nd - Period 1 had the evacuation to ESA; period 2 had the Independent reading day; and period 5 went to see Gwyn Dyer speak about: Brexit, Trump, the Increased number of people in France who voted for the National Front Party (Fascist party) - Marine Le Pen, and the growing Neo- Nazis in Germany. He gave some perspective on how these things have come about and also he predicted a bit of how he thinks things will go in the future. If you didn't get your Article of the Week done, you still can pass it in at the start of class on Tuesday without losing marks for being late.

Sept 29th - Today we finished the tasks we began yesterday.

Sept 28th - Today in class periods 1,2,and 5 we broke the class into 5 or 6 groups and we read and gave feedback on over half of the stories we had written as multi-genre stories (You folks have pretty amazing projects!). This will continue tomorrow in class until we finish. There may be a little time for reading in your independent novels, but we likely need to take novel reading to Monday. The "Article of the Week" isn't due until Monday. If you need a copy, they are in the blue hanging file.

Sept 27 - Today, Per 1,2,5 worked on writing multi genre stories and may have started the Article of the Week, and some even got to the point that they got to read in their independent novels. The stories have to be passed in to me before class tomorrow (Thursday).

Sept 26 - per 1 and 2 worked on writing the Multi Genre stories. Per 5 had no class today.

Sept 25 - We worked on out multi-genre stories. Tomorrow will be our last day for this project.

Sept22 - Reading day in preparation for our book talk on Oct 27th
Sept 21 - Same as yesterday.
Sept 20th - Today we worked on collaborative writing of the multigenre stories. Most students had completed the plot summary and were working on actual writings today.

Sept 19th - Today we took about 15 - 20 minutes to finish the posters from yesterday, then we learned what a multigenre story is. We looked at a sample on the smart board and then had several more copies to use as models. This project is for groups of 2 or 3 people and everyone got a group together and got started on a plot line. Some even got to start to write the stories. We will be working on this project until Thursday and then we will see if students need more time or if they can have them ready to hand in on Monday. Friday is a reading day for your independent novel.

Sept 18th - We watched a TED talk by Pamela Meyer on lying and then we read in the Echoes txt, page 368-372, the non-fiction essay on, The Truth About Lying. After this we discussed in our groups and then started making a group poster that covered the content we had learned. Most groups didn't finish in class and will have time to do it tomorrow.

On September 14th we in periods 1 and 2, wrote the semicolon quiz marked it and put it in the blue file folder. After that we read in our independent novels and watched the video, "The Forger" ( you can find it on youtube). In period 5 we finished marking the quizzes, put them in the blue folder and then went to the library for a tour, then read in our independent novels for the rest of the period.

On September 13th we reviewed the semicolon powerpoint.

Period 1 will write the semicolon test tomorrow.
Period 2 will write the semicolon test tomorrow.
Period 5 will finish marking the test tomorrow.
All classes remember to bring your novel to class on Thursday. You can have at least part of the class time to read.

On September 12th I read aloud the narrative, "Ducks Quack, Eagles Soar":
and students gave me a one page single spaced or two page double spaced reaction to the reading. Mother tongue English students passed it in today. Students new to English have until tomorrow to pass in their writing response.
We also talked about semi-colons and started learning about them. We got through to slide 8 (period 5 only got to slide 7) in the following power point presentation:

On September 11, 2017 I gave out the following handout:
